[cta-box] Transcript: [0:00:00] Hey, this is Jeff Wenberg from LeadPages. Back in the day, we as a company were linked to by one of the biggest blogs out there at the time. I’m not able to tell you which blog it was, but it was significant for us. This was so exciting and just an insanely huge opportunity when this huge blog wanted to link to us. We knew when it was going to happen and there was all this built-up anticipation when the day finally came. The blog post was our link and it was published and we were all excited about this blog linking to us. That should have been, you know, the start of our meteoric rise to fame, but instead what happened was something went wrong with the link and all the traffic was sent to a 404 page, so everyone that we could have helped and formed relationships with and everyone that could have otherwise learned from us and experienced some great things were ultimately lost because they ended up on a 404 page and left our site. I’m sure everyone watching this video has had the experience of being linked to at the wrong URL. You know, sometimes, people send out the wrong URL or the page goes down or whatever the case maybe. When this happens, you want to make sure that no one leaks off your site. You want to be able to provide as much value to as many people as possible because usually, once those people are gone, they don’t come back. Now our friend, Pat Flynn, at the Smart Passive Income blog uses one option that looks like this, which is great. You can get people moving back on to his website with a search function here and also with a popular link. The truth is though most people that come to your website and see a 404 page aren’t actually familiar with you and allowing them to search and see your most popular post doesn’t necessarily serve their best interest. The only thing that they’re going to know is that the page they’re looking for isn’t there so most likely the leaf. What we recommend is this specific page. This is our favorite 404 landing page template that builds your list for you. So if you’re not fully seeing why we like this page yet, let me show you. This is actually a 404 opt-in page. This page allows you to take a leadership role and give a person that finds themselves on this page one of the most valuable things that you can possibly give them. so if at least they don’t come away with what they were looking for, they come away with what you think would give them the greatest amount of value. I’m going to show you how to customize this 404 page for you or your client. Inside the LeadPages, select the 404 page template. I’m going to upload the logo for my client. I’ll just go to my computer and find the file and it will load it there. Now let’s grab a picture of Homer to really give this page some personality. Again, just find the file on my computer and it will upload it. Now let me change the copy that people see when they find the 404 page so it gives them some idea as to what’s going on and why they reached this page. I’m going to change the copy over here to reflect Homer’s offer. Now let’s put an image of Homer’s free report over here as well. Also, I’d like to change the colors a little bit to match what we’ve got going on here with the logo and important things. Finally, I want to make sure that I integrate this page with an email service provider so when people opt in, they’ll put on the right list. Select the integration, then select the list they go to. I’m just going to add them to my house list. Now don’t forget that we’re giving people the opt-in, the free guide, the Springfield so I’m going to turn on digital asset delivery and select the ‘Guide to Springfield’ from the dropdown. So this means that even though they’re being added to the house list, they’re being given the Guide to Springfield. That way, when I go and opt in, which shows up in my inbox as this Guide to Springfield even though I’m being added to the house list, this is our favorite way of delivering opt-in drives. The digital asset delivery system handles sending out your free report, downloadable ebook, or whatever else you’re giving away in exchange for someone’s email address. While your email service provider still functions exactly the same as it normally would and sends out all the other emails you’ve set up in your account. Finally, main the page and then save the page. Now if you have WordPress, here’s how to set up this page in WordPress. Go to the LeadPages plug-in and select the word press installation, add new, select 404 page. From the dropdown, select the page that we just customized, and finally, just publish the page. Now that I have this set up, if I go to blog.LeadPages.net/whatever, instead of seeing the standard 404 page, it provides me no value. I’ll see my new 404 page instead. If you’re not a LeadPages customer, you will need to be a coder or hire a coder to make the downloadable template below work. For non-LeadPages customers, it’s a bit more difficult to set up. Here’s what you’ll need to do if you’re not a LeadPages customer. Download the HTML and CSS below and modify them using your coding skills or the coder you’ve hired. Integrate it with your auto responder WordPress, etcetera, get your landing page code that you’ve generated, and publish the page. So these are the steps that you’ll need to take if you’re not a LeadPages customer. If you are a LeadPages customer, it’s super easy to create this page using our point and click editor. If you’re not a LeadPages customer and you’d like to be, head to www.LeadPages.net to get LeadPages. I’m Jeff Wenberg. Have a great day. [0:05:06] End of Audio
